Description
E-SCAPE invigorates the public life of the University of Michigan North Campus by providing a unique array of spaces in which to connect and be with others in fun and unexpected ways. People may sit in it, climb on it, be with others, or alone, as they explore, contemplate and lounge in its unusual interior and experience events staged in unique indoor/outdoor spaces. By day it serves as a hub for the social life of the community, and at night it lights up the quad with music, film, luminous effects and lively events. E-SCAPE invites constant change and new forms of behavior. Its varied spaces are collected together into a single rectilinear bar centrally positioned within the spatial flow of the quad, and is clad in a horizontal topological screen that allows for views in, out and all the way across the structure. Through its unique overlay of intersecting and hyper-adaptable spaces, the E-SCAPE provides a beacon of activity for the North Campus community and broadcasts
the vitality of the locale to the larger university.
